Trusted partner
Vion has strong, long-term relationships with its suppliers, and works intensively with livestock farmers, sector organizations and traders. This close collaboration with professional and reliable partners guarantees food safety when breeding, in stables and during transport. The cooperation has also allowed us to develop sustainable, animal-friendly programs for the production of meat, providing us with a substantial market share in organic meat.

Vion Rundvee
The employees at Vion Rundvee supervise the purchase and sale of all animal flows in cattle farming. This concerns cattle intended for
meat production, calves, breeding and production cattle and export cattle. Vion Rundvee is responsible for the transport of slaughter cattle from all over the Netherlands to the production location of Vion Tilburg.
Vion RundveeNet gives livestock farmers online insight into the slaughter data from Vion slaughterhouses. The dashboard provides direct insight into the weight, quality and animal health records of the animals. Together with their own veterinarian, livestock farmers can take action to prevent or control possible animal health recordings in the livestock in the long term. In this way, they optimise their operational management for milk production, and produce healthier cows with a higher meat turnover.
Young Beef: a sustainable chain with a revenue model
In ‘Young Beef’, Vion has been working since 2023 with livestock farmers in the Netherlands and various other parties on a more sustainable chain that leads to a high-quality product for the consumer. The meat in Young Beef is meat with a story. This is only possible by keeping the path from farm to fork as short as possible.

Local sourcing
Vion meets the increasing demand for regional meat through a decentralized network of slaughterhouses that mainly source their animals from those regions. Our goal is to buy animals within a radius of 200 kilometres from the slaughterhouse. That is a strategic choice that minimizes animal transport times.
The Business Unit Beef has a total of 11 production locations for cattle of which two are located in the Netherlands, eight in Germany and one in Belgium.
