Vion Food Group plans to transfer its meat deboning operations in Landshut to its locations in Vilshofen and Crailsheim at the end of this month, thus adapting the internal capacity of the department to current market developments and soaring costs.
“This reallocation of capacity will strengthen the triangle of locations in Landshut, Vilshofen, and Crailsheim for the future. Our deboning operations are being adapted due to the fact that farmers are producing significantly fewer animals for slaughter,” explained Leon Cuypers, COO of Business Unit Pork at Vion Food Group, the shareholder decision of Vion SBL Landshut. This measure will enable Vion to ensure that farmers in the south continue to be able to benefit from short transport routes to pig abattoirs. “This decision is especially important for animal welfare,” added Cuypers.
Around 90 employees will be involved by the change in Landshut. Vion will negotiate a social plan with the works council. The company hopes to accommodate the involved employees at other locations like Vilshofen and Waldkraiburg.
