Vion has sales support offices and representatives worldwide. We provide fresh pork, beef, meat products, plant based alternatives and by-products for retail, foodservice and the meat processing industry.We supply customers in our home markets of the Netherlands and Germany, as well as in other countries all over the world. Our headquarters are located in Boxtel, the Netherlands.

Producing safe and wholesome food is one of Vion’s top priorities. Food safety and quality assurance are embedded in the codes of practice at all Vion production sites. Vion is committed to the ISO 9001 standard for quality-oriented organisations, and all Vion establishments are ISO 9001 certified.

Animal welfare
Control and transparency of animal welfare is a key issue in our strategy to create trust in the products and supply chain. We want to take the lead in welfare discussions, and we take responsibility for our role in controlling the welfare status in the supply chain. Our animal welfare strategy consists of several levels of control with regards to animal welfare. Transparency in the supply chain improves animal welfare. We are committed to gathering and sharing information on animal welfare aspects via digital systems with the rest of the supply chain.

Employment and working conditions
At present, it is hard to recruit enough suitable production personnel. Vion cooperates closely with third-party labour companies. The regional labour markets in Germany and the Netherlands do not have enough workers. Therefore, the third-party labour workforce and regular workforce consist mainly of employees from eastern and southern European countries.

Traceability and product integrity
Ensuring that products are traceable upstream and downstream in the supply chain is a significant challenge for companies that produce food items originating from complicated supply chains. All our food items derived from either plants or animals are traceable to the farms. Product integrity involves the organisation of product and process integrity, as well as supply chain transparency to manage an honest, reliable chain of custody. It also guarantees for the consumer that the packaging contains the product which is specified on the label.

Climate
Food production contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, primarily methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide. Our contribution to global warming is estimated at less than 5% of supply chain emissions, mainly due to animal feed production and farm methane emissions. At the same time, soil and vegetation on farms help to remove carbon from the atmosphere; this in turn has a positive impact on the climate.

Biodiversity and deforestation
The nature of our supply chain means Vion is linked to a potential negative impact on biodiversity. There is a risk of deforestation to produce soy for livestock feed. Via the livestock farms that supply us, we are linked to a risk of biodiversity loss through the emission of ammonia and through monoculture, soil acidification and land use and land management. In addition, transportation by us and our supply chain emit nitrogen.
